Armitron Watch Review: High-Style Watches for Less

Armitron Watch Review_Feat1

If you have been shopping for new watches in online superstores like Amazon, there’s a good chance that you’ve stumbled upon the brand Armitron – I know I did. From what I’ve seen, Armitron offers a wide range of watches and it seems to be a brand catered to the lower price market. It seems to be an interesting brand that compelled me to write this Armitron watch review.

There are so many unknown watch brands out there and they’re all competing for your attention. Many pull you in with their unique and beautiful designs while others attract you with their budget-friendly price point. Armitron seems to be the happy medium of both spectrums as it offers some good-looking designs (albeit derivative) but for a good price.

Today, we check out the Armitron watch brand. We take a look at the history of the brand, the things that we love and don’t love about it, and highlight some of the best Armitron watches out there.

About Armitron Watches

Armitron Watch Review

My first impression with Armitron is that it’s an up and coming brand and that it’s fairly new. However, I was surprised when I found out that it’s been around since 1956 and was founded by the gentleman called Eugen Gluck in Little Neck, New York. According to the Armitron website, the brand is:

Devoted to nurturing the spirit of individuality with high-quality, high-style watches at affordable price points.

This is about right because Armitron strikes me as a lifestyle, boutique watch brand. Also, Armitron claims that it looks to highlight personal style among others instead of being influenced by others. On the Armitron blog reads,

Driven by the understanding that a timepiece is both a common thread and a distinguishing factor.

True enough, Armitron provides a wide range of timepiece collections that should appeal to everyone. From Swarovski steel watches to rugged sports chronograph, there’s really is an Armitron watch for everyone.

Having said that, Armitron seeks to appeal to the younger generation with watches that come in hip designs but with affordable price points. Armitron is becoming very popular in the United States and is gaining quite a lot of traction in the UK as well. In fact, the brand has been endorsed by sports teams and professional athletes such as Jerry Rice, Boomer Esiason, Darryl Strawberry, Dwight Gooden, Larry Bird, and more. The brand is also a current sponsor of the New York Yankees.

Armitron Watch Review: The Pros and Cons

Armitron Watch Review

Is Armitron a good watch brand? Here are the things that we love and don’t love about this U.S.-based lifestyle watch brand.

What We Love

Wide Range of Options

Armitron Watch Review

One of the many things that are going for Armitron is its long list of watch collections. The brand has a collection for Dress, Travel, Casual, Sports, and Night Out watches. Also, both men and women have given a lot of attention so there’s definitely something here for everyone. There’s some overlap between the two categories in terms of themes but the designs and aesthetics are decidedly distinct.

Apart from these collections, Armitron also offers their watches by types like Sports, Analog, Solar, and Graffiti. The graffiti collection is particularly interesting due to the youthful street design that fits the name.

I have to admit that the sheer number of watches offered by Armitron can be quite overwhelming. However, with the lower-end price point, you can purchase multiple watches if you’re having difficulties when choosing. And this brings us to the next appealing aspect of Armitron

Budget-Friendly Timepieces

Perhaps the best thing about the Armitron brand is the price. Simply put, Armitron is a brand that targets the lower-end market. I’ve been checking out Armitron watches and there are only a few models that are sold for over $100 like the Armitron Adventure AD/1004BKTIBK.

Other than that, the majority of Armitron models are priced between $20 to $100, and that’s a lot of watches to choose from. That’s right, you can find Armitron units that are priced in the 20s like the Armitron 204604DBSVBK Dress Swarovski. But if you dig even deeper, you’ll find watches as low as $12 (although it’s for sale) such as the Armitron Sport 45/7053.

When it comes to price, it’s hard to argue with what Armitron has to offer. If you’re looking for timepieces that won’t break the bank, Armitron’s offering should do nicely.

Lively Designs

With a variety of collections comes a variety of designs. Many Armitron watches are quite eye-catching, especially from the aforementioned Graffiti collection where the designs are lively and colorful. Regardless of your aesthetic preference, you’ll find something to like with Armitron’s collection.

However, that’s not saying that all of Armitron’s watches have striking designs. In fact, many of them are fairly derivative – some models remind me of G-Shock watches while some seem to be inspired by Timex timepieces. Like most watch brands, some Armitron designs are good while there are also uninspired ones.

At the end of the day, it all comes down with the buyer’s preference. But since Armitron offers a wide range of designs, it’s not hard to find a watch for every unique aesthetic requirement.

Robust Timekeeping Tools

Armitron watches are fairly reliable. In terms of accuracy, there’s not a lot to complain about here. Many of Armitron’s watches are digital and quartz, so accuracy isn’t really an issue. In terms of durability, some models ended up on my daily beater rotations. I’m not expecting these watches to last forever but for the price, the durability is surprising.

Some of the watches come with added features, especially the digital chronograph models. These added features are fairly basic but they work as intended, most of the time. It’s not going to blow anyone’s mind but for a $20+ watch, it’s silly to complain.

What We Don’t Love

Quality Can Be a Hit or Miss

Armitron Watch Review

As mentioned, Armitron watches are geared towards the lower-end market. So as you might expect, the quality of the watches can vary especially concerning the price. The quality of the watch in the $20+ price point is very different when compared to the ones approaching the $100 price.

Some Armitron watches can feel rather light and plasticky. Again, my expectations were quite low but some of the models almost feel like a toy watch. Also, some watches look good on photos but once I’ve pulled them out of the box, I can’t help but get disappointed.

When buying Armitron watches, make sure that you manage your expectations, especially when it’s a lower-end model.

Durability Issues

The issue with budget-friendly watches is that the manufacturer has to cut some corners to keep the price down – that’s applies to Armitron as well. What I’m saying is that don’t expect these watches to have the highest quality materials.

For instance, the finish in many of the watches is not scratch or chip-resistant, making them very vulnerable to scrapes after high impact. Some of the bands are easily broken as well after months of use, even the leather strap variants. The clasps could use a bit of work as well since they are quite loose in some models.

Best Armitron Watches

If you’ve been reading this Armitron watch review, you’re probably wondering which models are worth checking out. Here are some of the best Armitron watches that you can get:

1. Armitron Sport 40/8284 Digital Chronograph

Armitron Watch Review

The Armitron Sport 40/8284 Digital Chronograph is quite possibly the quintessential Armitron watch. It’s big, loud, and high-style. Although it’s very reminiscent of some Casio G-Shock watches, it stands out on its own.

This sports watch looks great in person and although it’s priced at $20+, it feels surprisingly solid. It’s a digital chronograph watch that comes with features like lap time, alarm time, dual time, military time, back light functions, two zone LCD display, and more. Plus, it’s water-resistant up to 100 meters, so it’s a good option for water sports lovers as well.

Overall, it’s a pretty good digital chronograph watch considering the very low price. It’s a good daily beater for sure.

2. Armitron 20/4935 Day/Date

Armitron Watch Review

The Armitron 20/4935 Day/Date is one of the more expensive offerings from the brand (but still very affordable). This watch is simple but stands out with its handsome design and striking face. The hands are luminous as well, so that’s a nice bonus.

The Armitron Men’s 20/4935 Day/Date is a casual dress watch which means that you can wear this every day but will work to a formal dinner as well. The higher price also ensures that the quality and construction are better.

Overall, it’s a great stainless steel watch if you require a less sporty offering from Armitron.

3. Armitron 204677BLSV Stainless Steel

Armitron Watch Review

For another solid option, the Armitron 204677BLSV Stainless Steel fits the bill perfectly. The sunburst dial is a good design element and this what made me buy it.

Although it reads Tachymeter on the watch, it doesn’t have such a feature which is understandable considering the price. It does have a day/date function and 24-hour subdials. In terms of features, the watch is quite bare-bones but I imagine some people would prefer it this way.

Ultimately, the Armitron 204677BLSV Stainless Steel is a highly-fashionable piece and keeps time accurately. It’s a good mid-range Armitron option.

Armitron Watch Review: Should You Buy Them?

Armitron Watch Review_Feat

We end this Armitron watch review by giving a verdict of the brand. Is it a good brand? I think so! However, since it’s a budget-friendly brand, the watches come with problems that are usually common with affordable timepieces.

The best part about Armitron is its wide variety of options and cool designs. Nothing particularly mindblowing but its offerings are solid for the most part. The value proposition is pretty good but you have to keep in mind that other brands like Timex and Casio also compete at this price point.

Overall, Armitron is a competent lower-end watch brand and its watches are worth checking out for value seekers.

Best Skeleton Watches Under $5000

1. Stührling Anatol 371 Automatic

Best Skeleton Watches Under $5000

Stührling has only been around for more than a decade but it’s a brand that has established a good reputation over the years. The Stührling Anatol 371 Automatic is the most inexpensive model on this list but it’s far more than just a budget-friendly option.

Budget-Friendly But Not Cheap Quality

The Stührling Anatol 371 Automatic is a great starting timepiece for would-be skeleton watch collectors. This 47mm skeleton watch comes with a stainless steel case and bezel, a silver skeletonized dial, and blue hands and hour markers.

As you can see, this is an automatic skeleton watch that can be a deal-breaker for many collectors. However, for the price, it’s hard to go wrong with what this watch can offer. One of the best aspects of this skeleton watch is its overall design. It’s simply a good-looking watch with a great wrist presence. The silver dial contrasts perfectly with the blue indices and hands. The golden gear at the bottom portion of the dial is also a nice contrasting touch.

The alligator leather band might not be the most comfortable fit out there but for the price, it’s comfortable enough for daily wear. Overall, it’s not as high-quality as other skeleton watches on this list but it’s an affordable model that delivers.

2. Tag Heuer Carrera Calibre Heuer 01 Automatic

Best Skeleton Watches Under $5000

Next on our list of the best skeleton watches under $5000 is the Tag Heuer Carrera Calibre Heuer 01 Automatic. This is a skeleton watch that’s designed to impress because it’s simply mechanically fabulous.

Double Dose of WOW!

The inspiration for the Tag Heuer Carrera Calibre Heuer 01 Automatic is clearly the sport of high-performance motor racing. This skeleton chronograph’s dial is like a window into the creative mind of a Swiss watchmaker, who also happens to be a professional racing driver. The skeleton dial displays the movement of an automatic chronograph – a 39 jewel caliber with a complex design.

The modular case of the watch is also a wonder of construction featuring several different layers of materials. The watch is made of black titanium coated stainless steel with a fine brush finish. On the other hand, the crown and buttons are satin finished stainless steel.

What I love about this skeleton watch is the dark look – dark dial, black bezel and strap. It takes you quite a bit of time to figure out what’s going on but it’s a sporty piece that delivers in terms of aesthetics.

Overall, the Tag Heuer Carrera is not your classic skeleton key. It’s a watch for those who are looking for a brand with a strong modern design and identity.

3. Heli Reymond T 3017

Best Skeleton Watches Under $5000

When it comes to skeleton watch designs, they tend to lean towards a more classic approach. However, Heli Reymond begs to differ by releasing a skeleton watch with fun pops of colors. The Heli Reymond T 3017 is a classic skeleton with bold colors.

Bold as a Highlighter

One of the main draw points of the Heli Reymond T 3017 Skeleton Watch is its barrel shape design. Unlike most skeleton watches with rounded dials, this skeleton timepiece manages to look unique although it still exudes that classic charm.

Of course, you can’t talk about this watch without mentioning the highlighter colors. Heli Reymond’s Transparency collection features some really interesting skeleton models but the T 3017 stands out with its unique barrel design and color splash. The orange

The watch powered by the AR 6497 AR 165 caliber and it’s a beautiful one to behold. Of course, if you’re going to get a skeleton watch, you need a mesmerizing movement. In this case, Heli Reymond succeeded with the T 3017 Skeleton Watch.

Overall, the Heli Reymond T 3017 Skeleton Watch looks like a classic skeleton watch with an artistic flair of modern trends. Elegant and modern.

4. Oris Artelier Skeleton

Best Skeleton Watches Under $5000

A good skeleton watch is tricky to find at an affordable price. If you’re looking for an elegant skeleton key that won’t break the bank but still high-quality, the Oris Artelier Skeleton is an excellent option.

Solid All-Around Skeleton Watch

The Oris Artelier Skeleton features a case that toes the line between casual and dressy. True enough, this is a skeleton watch that you can wear virtually anywhere. Although the 40mm case size makes it more like a formal wear watch, the design is versatile enough for casual use. The Artelier comes with a domed sapphire crystal that does a good job of protecting the watch and providing an unobstructed view of the watch’s moving parts.

The face of the Artelier is certainly the main selling point. The design of the face leans towards the muted side to promote a more elegant tone. Of course, the skeletonized automatic movement can be seen in plain view but if you look closer, you’ll see finer details like the engraving and polished surfaces.

In addition, the Oris Artelier is powered by the Oris caliber 734 movement which uses the base caliber SW-200 from Sellit. In essence, the movement is a modified ETA 2824.

Ultimately, the Oris Artelier is a solid skeleton watch. There were some compromises but it’s justified to arrive at its reasonable pricing.

5. Tissot T-Complication Squelette

Best Skeleton Watches Under $5000

If you’re looking for a watch with an impressive visual impact, the Tissot T-Complication Squelette may be the piece for you.

Marriage of Modern Design and Craftmanship

From every angle, you can see that Tissot nailed that attention to detail with this skeleton watch. Front and back are equally as impressive. It’s a watch that gives so much personality. As the movement does its thing, you can every piece of it moving, rotating, and turning.

It’s honestly very mesmerizing.

The steel movement and case provides a great background for the purple and yellow parts of the watch. I have to say that the dial is a great success – which is important for any skeleton watch.

At the heart of the watch beats the ETA 6497-1 mechanical movement. This movement is a classic workhorse and has been in production since the 1950s. If you’re used to newer movements, you might be caught off-guard by the lower beat rate. The Squelette is accurate to +11 seconds per day which is not bad at all.

Overall, the Tissot T-Complication Squelette raises the bar when it comes to the best skeleton watches under $5000. It’s eye-catching, dramatic, and it’s a beautiful piece overall.

6. Hamilton Jazzmaster Viewmatic Skeleton

Best Skeleton Watches Under $5000

Skeleton watches are far from being affordable, especially when it’s from a fairly known brand. That’s why the Hamilton Jazzmaster Viewmatic Skeleton is a breath of fresh air.

A Solid Automatic Skeleton

The Hamilton Jazzmaster Viewmatic Skeleton is housed on a 40mm stainless steel case, making it a good formal wear watch. As you can see, the watch features a very vintage look, and reminds me of the 1960s. Adding to that, the thin profile and shape of the lugs add to the vintage aesthetic that Hamilton is going for.

The lighter material on the dial is actually the dial itself while the dark grey section is the movement plates. This is a pretty neat construction design because it gives the watch a multi-layered look. Hamilton chose to abandon the ornate filigreed skeleton in favor of a more masculine, engineered look. All the components are nicely polished and finished, giving it an upscale look.

All in all, the Hamilton Jazzmaster Viewmatic Skeleton is a great example of a budget skeleton watch without many compromises.

Open-Heart Design at Affordable Prices

Rolex Air King 5500 Review: The Forgotten Vintage King

The Rolex Air King is truly the vintage Rolex for the purists. While the Air King is not as popular as the Submariner, GMT-Master, and Day-Date, it’s one of the older collections of Rolex with a rich history. The history of Rolex Air-King dates back in 1945 during World War II.

What made the Air King such an iconic timepiece is the simplicity of the dial and precise timekeeping.

We have already reviewed the Rolex Air King Ref. 116900 which is the closest you can get to a Rolex sports watch. Today, we’ll take an in-depth look at the Rolex Air King 5500.

For this Rolex Air King 5500 review, we find out if this vintage model is worth adding to your collection.

First Impressions

Rolex Air King 5500 Review

The Air King collection has always fascinated me due to its storied history. The Air King was introduced alongside names like Air Lion, Air Giant, and Air Tiger – all of which have flamed out. Rolex originally made the Air King as another spin to the Oyster Perpetual to honor the RAF Pilots who served during WW2.

The Air King is not exactly a popular model among enthusiasts and collectors but there are still many budding enthusiasts that do want it. Since this timepiece continues to fly under most people’s radar, even the most vintage Air Kings are sold at reasonable prices.

This is what made me decide to give the Air-King a well-deserved spin. It has a great history and good price, it’s hard to pass up on that.

One of the first things I’ve noticed about the Rolex Air King 5500 is the size. Clocking in at 34 mm, the Air King is a petite watch which is fairly common during its era. One look at the Air King and you’ll see that it’s a very vintage piece. It features a very simple and clean look and time-only design.

The design just doesn’t get any more classic than this.

The elegant silver dial is one of the standout design elements here, and the gentle sunburst effect of the dial does a great job of wrapping up the whole look. Aside from the vintage aesthetic, the Air King 5500 is, for the lack of a better word, typical. I know that it’s a classic and it deserves respect but I can’t help but feel merely “whelmed.”

Don’t get me wrong. It’s a very well-made timepiece with a timeless look and provides just what you can expect from Rolex. It just gives me the impression that it’s a piece that’s best for collection purposes.

Design

Rolex Air King 5500 Review

The Rolex Air King 5500 is the definition of timeless elegance. You can tell that Rolex made a watch exactly how they want it.

The 5500 boasts the hallmark traits of a Rolex without a single overdone feature. The minimalist good looks make the Air King such a versatile timepiece. Regardless of the purpose, whether it’s daily wear or something dressier, this is a watch that will never go out of style.

As mentioned, the main selling point of the watch is its elegant silver dial. The sunburst effect in the middle of the dial sure adds a lot to my enjoyment of the watch. The sharp, applied indices are elegantly detailed and are topped with small lume plots along the edge of the face. This is a common Rolex design element during that era.

The hands aren’t particularly mindblowing and look like your typical baton hands. The half part of the hands is fitted with lume but not all the way through. The lume is cut short before right before the tip, making the end look like a pencil.

The Air King 5500 is available in many different variants and dial colors which is always a good thing.

Construction and Wearability

The Air King 5500 is a stainless steel marvel. Despite being a vintage timepiece, it feels solid and robust which gives me a lot of confidence. After all, this is a watch designed to honor World War II pilots.

For the case, the 5500 utilizes the iconic Oyster case and screw down crown. According to its official specs, the watch can withstand depths of 50 meters which is pretty good for a watch of its age. In addition, a domed, acrylic crystal protects the dial. It’s not exactly sapphire crystal but you have to keep in mind that the Air King is supposedly and entry-level model.

Like with most Rolex timepieces, the Air King 5500 is fitted with the classic Oyster bracelet. However, since Air King’s production spans decades, a few different Oyster bracelets may be used depending on the production date.

With that said, the Rolex Air King 5500 offers a surprising comfort which can only be attributed to Rolex’s excellent construction philosophy. The Oystersteel bracelet and clasp work just as expected. It’s not as fancy as some of the more modern Oyster versions but there’s really nothing to complain here.

If you’re looking to wear the 5500 daily, you’re in a good company. The Air King might be vintage but it’s not fragile.

Timekeeping

Rolex Air King 5500 Review 1520 Movement

Because of past U.S. import laws that are designed to protect domestic watch companies, the movement inside the Air King 5500 varied. There are two caliber movements found inside the 5500: the 1520 and 1530.

The caliber 1530 features 17, 25, or 26 jewels while the caliber 1520 had either 17 or 26 jewels. Unfortunately, the U.S. and Canada markets have the shorter end of the stick with downgraded movements. One notable example of this is that the 1520 came with the “Precision” text in the dial while with the 1530, Rolex used the “Super Precision” labeling.

However, both movements aren’t exactly the cream of the crop. Both are also not COSC certified. While wearing the Air King 5500, you can actually hear the movement rattling around. Despite that, both the 1530 and 1520 movements are robust and easy to service.

On an interesting note, the most sought out version of the 5500 is the one that features the words Air-King and “Super Precision” in red. There’s also the rare Dominos Air-King 5500 which was used to incentivize franchises that have fulfilled their sales goals. It’s a very interesting collaboration for sure.

Pricing

Of course, for this Rolex Air King 5500 review, we find out if this watch is worth the money.

The production of the old Air King was halted back in 2014. The new Air King Reference 116900 is a different kind of timepiece and marketed as an entry-level Rolex. Therefore, if you’re going to buy the old version of the Rolex Air King, you’re stuck with resellers and used models.

As I’ve mentioned earlier, the Rolex Air King 5500 isn’t the most popular Rolex watch out there. For this reason, it’s easy to find a relatively affordable Air King 5500 over the web. I’ve had mine for a little bit over $3,000 which is not bad at all for a vintage Rolex.

There are 5500 variants with different bracelets and dial colors that can go a bit higher in price. However, I’ve yet to see an Air King that went over $4,000 except for the Rolex Air King 5500 Dominos version.

For the price, you get a classic Rolex with a rich history. It’s also quite robust and versatile.

Should You Get the Rolex Air King 5500?

Rolex Air King 5500 Review

We end this Rolex Air King 5500 review with our verdict.

I’ve had the Air King 5500 for quite a while now and I’m honestly very fond of it. Sure, it’s not exactly a watch that goes into my regular rotation but I understand what Rolex is trying to accomplish here. In some parts, the 5500 is outdated and it doesn’t even have a mechanical movement for the avid horologist. However, its classic good looks can hold its own, all things considered.

Obviously, the best aspect of the Air King 5500 is the price. It’s a good Rolex to consider if you want a watch that won’t break the bank. However, I simply can’t recommend the Air King 5500 for new collectors and Rolex first-timers. Rolex has plenty of amazing watches under its belt and the 5500 is not even close to a contender.

If you want an entry-level Rolex, the Air King 116900 might be the better option. Rolex had fun with the 116900 and it has more features. It’s a polarizing watch but it’s a good first watch for any budding collector, as far as entry-level Rolex watches go.

Overall, the Air King 5500 is not without its charm. This collection has some pretty interesting variants that are difficult to find – royal logos, jeweler stamps, and company logos come to mind. The Rolex Air King 5500 offers a solid value proposition for anyone who’s looking to dive into vintage Rolex.

Rolex Datejust 36 Review

Rolex Datejust 36 vs 41

For this head-to-head review, we’ll be referencing the Rolex Datejust 36 Ref. 126234 which is an update to the classic Rolex Datejust reference 16234. This is the new model which comes in two versions: the black dial model and the mother-of-pearl configuration with diamond hour markers.

Design

Rolex Datejust 36 vs 41

If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it!

When it comes to the Datejust 36, Rolex hasn’t messed with its success formula. Ever since its debut, the Datejust 36 has only seen subtle improvements with each iteration. With that said, the design of the Datejust 36 is still wonderfully classic.

The crux of the Datejust 36’s design is its Coke-bottle shape which pretty much didn’t change over the years. This quintessential design enables the Datejust 36 to fit any wrist, suits, or occasion.

For this version, the Oystersteel case features a more streamlined profile that reminds me of luxurious sailboats. The toned contours give the watch a more professional but at the same time sporty look. I love how the case lines look sharp and defined.

As for the dial, the Ref. 126234 has received a bit of makeover. The railroad track has been replaced with the simplistic index markers. This change has opened up some space in the dial which I like. Another noteworthy change is that the hour hands can almost touch the hour indices.

At 12 o’clock, you can find the iconic five-pointed coronet that’s is white-gold finished, like the rest of the hands and indices. However, the coronet looks rounder and gentler while the hands look a bit chunkier like a Kit-Kat bar. Legibility has always been excellent with the Rolex Datejust 36 and that’s further reinforced with the empirical Cyclops lens that magnifies the date aperture.

Construction and Wearability

The Rolex Datejust 36 successfully married functionality and luxury. The signature fluted bezel is not just there for looks but it was originally used for screwing the bezel onto the case, protecting it from water. The fluting in this version is now less pronounced but its waterproofness is still intact.

The bracelet is now a 5-piece link Jubilee that’s a bit of a throwback to the original design. The three center links are polished while the outer links are satin-finished and polished edges.

While I’m not a big fan of this elaborate bracelet design, the addition of more links provides better comfort – something that I can’t argue with. The Jubilee bracelet comes with the 5 mm Easylink extension which makes adjusting a breeze.

Due to its size, the Datejust 36 is essentially a unisex watch. However, as expected, the size might be too small for people with larger wrists. In this regard, you’re better off with the Datejust 41.

Timekeeping

Caliber 3235 Movement

The new Datejust 36 is powered by the caliber 3235 movement. As you might know, this new-gen movement offers an accuracy of -2 / +2 seconds a day deviation, meeting the official chronometer (COSC) standards.

This is perhaps the biggest novelty component of the new Rolex Datejust 36.

Also, the watch is equipped with Paramagnetic blue Parachrom hairspring and Paraflex shock absorbers, adding a great deal of robustness to the movement. The 70-hour power reserve makes this watch a true powerhouse. Of course, there’s the perfectly cut date window that’s magnified by the Cyclops lens.

Not much can be said about the timekeeping quality. It’s accurate, reliable, and certainly top-of-the-line.

Rolex Datejust 41 Review

Rolex Datejust 36 vs 41

For this Rolex Datejust 36 vs 41 comparison, we will take a look at the Rolex Datejust 41 ref. 126300. We’ll go with this model because it’s very popular among collectors.

Design

Rolex Datejust 36 vs 41

Obviously, the key design element of the Datejust 41 is the “41” part which refers to the case size. Back then, many people were excited about the case update since Rolex will be bringing the Datejust to a modern case size. The Rolex Datejust II also came in 41mm case but the bulkier profile turned some people off.

For many people, the Datejust 41 is just the perfect size of the timeless classic.

The Oystersteel material looks iconic and elegant as usual. I actually prefer the steel version of the Datejust 41 just because it’s stylistically versatile and not to mention, lesser on the price tag as well.

All the familiar design elements that people enjoyed with the Datejust is here. The beautiful fluted bezel (originally a coin-style bezel) looks true to form. The hallmark Cyclops lens is still here and does a great job of magnifying the date window.

I’ve always been partial to dark dials, so the dark rhodium dial of this model

The good thing about the Datejust 41 is that it’s available in many different dial designs such as champagne, silver, blue, dark rhodium, and white.

Construction and Wearability

As with the Datejust 36, the 41 comes with the signature Oystersteel bracelet. This reference model also comes with a five-piece link metal Jubilee bracelet. Due to the added links, the bracelet feels softer and more comfortable.

You can find a concealed attachment system underneath the bezel which provides a more seamless look. As expected the signature folding Oysterclasp is here and has also received the Easylink 5 mm extension link treatment.

The 41mm size feels just right and sits nicely on the wrist. While it’s larger, the Datejust 41 features a slim profile and tapered lugs that allow superior comfort. The size is probably the biggest advantage of the Datejust 41 over the 36.

Timekeeping

Similar to the Datejust 36, the 41 model houses the Rolex Caliber 3235 – a movement that debuted back in 2015 with the Rolex Pearlmaster.

The in-house 3235 movement is the perfect timekeeping engine for a luxury watch such as this. Boasting 14 patents, this is one of the best movements by Rolex in terms of reliability and accuracy. The Chronergy escapement is a great addition that improves the movement’s efficiency. With a power reserve of 70 hours, you can stop wearing this watch for 3 days before it runs out of juice.

Like all Rolex models, the accuracy is rated at +2/-2 seconds a day and is Superlative Chronometer Officially Certified. The 3235 movement is not just an evolution of the well-known 3135 / 3136 movements. Rolex has made sure that it’s a proper upgrade with over 90% parts that are new.

With the Datejust 41, timekeeping accuracy and reliability are concerns that you can throw out the window.

Rolex Datejust 36 vs 41: The Verdict

We wrap up our Rolex Datejust 36 vs 41 comparison with our verdict. Which Datejust model is better?

This one is a tough call because as you can see, both watches are essentially the same. Ultimately, your decision will boil down whether you prefer a 36mm or 41mm case size. If your wrist belongs in the larger end of the spectrum, the Datejust 41 is an easy choice. The Datejust 36 simply looks miniature on a larger wrist. Some people don’t mind the smaller size since it goes well with most office clothing and dress shirts.

Also, you can make a case for the 36 that the classic 3-hand and date dial looks better on a smaller watch. The design elements are simply spaced out better when looking at a smaller dial.

The Datejust 41 is a replacement for the Rolex Datejust II, so it’s basically Rolex’s way of correcting some things. True enough, the 41 did a lot of things right and it’s essentially the epitome of a “classic casual watch.”

Again, this all comes down if you prefer a 36mm or 41mm timepiece. Either, it’s hard to go wrong with either Datejust model.

U Boat Watch Review

Classico U-47 U Boat watch

Are you looking for boldly designed wristwatches that can withstand climatic conditions, be reliable, and readable at just a glance? If so, the U Boat Watch Review is where you should start.

In this review, we want to get to the bottom of if the brand is worth the investment. U Boat watches don’t come with a cheap price tag, which means you should be receiving a product that lives up to your investment. The Classico U-47 is just one of the ones we think you’d be interested in.

u boat watch review

A Brief History Of the U-Boat Brand

Every brand of wristwatch has a stand out signature style that sets them apart from the rest. The inspiration behind U-Boat Watches is found in their roots. Starting in 1942, IIvo Fontana got a request from the Italian navy to design wristwatches for soldiers.

While he did end up drafting the designs, the deal did not go through. It was only years later in 2000 that his grandson Italo Fontana discovered his designs and reinvented them.

Since then, the U Boat brand has expanded its reach to crafting high-end wristwatches that stand out. The U Boat Company focuses on embellishing their watches using unique metals such as stainless steel, titanium, and gold and silver. This provides you with a large selection from multiple collections.

Pair that with the brand’s high attention to detail with their handcrafted quality that uses only the finest of materials. These features contribute to a reliable and stylish Italian wristwatch that lasts through everyday wear and tear.

All of U Boat’s watches are crafted in their headquarters in Lucca, Tuscany, and the attention to detail is astonishing. Each craftsman uses enhanced techniques such as acid bathing, carbon fibers, and swiss movements to create each stunning piece.

Classico U-47

u boat watch review

The Classico U-47 features a bold black and gold look that matches strong personalities – men and women alike. Other than that, it features a military-inspired design which includes a large dial, a metal plate fixed strap, and big logo located on the side. If you’re looking for a stunning simple uni-sex watch, then the Classico collection may be more up your alley.

The casing around the watch is 47 mm in diameter using stainless steel. As for the strap, it’s black leather installed with rubber and uses Kodiak water repellent which is water-resistant. This makes it ideal for those who spent the majority of their time outdoors.

Minimalistic Display

The Classico is a general watch and only displays the hours, minutes, seconds, and the current date. Besides this, it does lack quite a few other features that other high-end model watches may include. This includes touch screens, digital displays, and multiple clocks. However, the design itself is simplistic so that you can reliably read the time without numerous distractions.

Sturdy Design

For durability, the stainless steel casing is scratch-resistant and comes with a satin finish. The finishing is handcrafted, thus giving it a rustic charm. There’s a distinguished crown located on the left of the casing which enables you to see the engravement of the serial number for verification of an authentic watch.

Lavish Watchface

If you’re looking for standout features, the dial is where all the small details are. There are Arabic numerals located around the watch with multiple markers making it easier to tell the time. The layers also feature black, gold, and small embellishments of visible ruby. The hands of the clock are thin and precise and run to the edge of the casing.

What do we think?

For our U Boat watch review, the U-Boat Classico is a fantastic piece that boldly stands out amongst other simplistic watches. It makes a perfect gift for both men and women, as it comes with a stylish and protective box that includes an extra calf leather strap.

Chimera 46 SS Skeleton Limited Edition

u boat watch review

The Chimera 46 SS Skeleton is another simplified bold statement piece designed to last through any climatic situation. The casing is a bit smaller than other versions and clocks in at 46 mm. The lining features black stainless steel that also includes the trademark of the U-Boat brand.

Extra Protective Casing

To ensure that the device is securely locked and encased, the back and bezel of the watch are secured together using a unique exterior tubing that prevents water from getting into the components. This ensures that the clock can be used on a rainy day and withstand most other weather conditions.

Multi-Use Display

As for the display, it does include a bit more information than your standard watch. On the screen, you’ll see the hours, minutes, and seconds displayed. However, the watch also includes a chronograph and 24-hour indicator which can be useful if you’re traveling using military time or want a more accurate detailing of time.

Extra Details

Other specifications include a handcrafted black calf leather strap which adds to the style. Finish it off with a blacked stainless steel rim and buckle, and you’ve got yourself a sophisticated and interesting statement piece that’s reliable and fashionable.

What do we think?

For our U Boat watch review, the Chimera 46 SS Skeleton stands out as the dials look like rotating clockwork. If you’re looking for an amazing watch that can not only be useful but also admired, then you’re on the right track. Many customers are satisfied with the look, especially the blackened stainless steel because it’s much different from other linings. The Chimera deserves a place in our list of the ‘best skeleton watches under 5000‘.

Doppiotempo 46 Bronze BR

u boat watch review

The next on our list that’s definitely worth the mention not only because of its unique aged bronze exterior but also because of its two timezone feature is the Doppio Tempo 46 Bronze BR. This watch is one of the more recent creations to be released by the brand and includes a bi-directional rotating bezel to help enable those to set two separate time zones at a time.

Duo-Clock Display

As for the functions, the wristwatch includes multiple levels of information. Included in this version, you’ll see the house, minutes, and seconds displayed. The watch includes a 24-hour indicator and a bidirectional bezel. We find that multiple timezones work well for people who are traveling or expect to be in different timezones within a short period. Plus, you can keep track of your hometown’s time as well as where you’re traveling.

Protective Casing

Besides these features, the watch includes a backing that’s sealed with seven screws, ensuring that the casing protects the main components of the watch. The outside of the wristwatch is water-resistant of 100 mt or 10 ATM. This ensures that you’ll be able to use it in wet or rainy climates.

What do we think?

For our U Boat watch review, the Doppio Tempo 46 Bronze BR also includes a well-crafted bronze buckle and is tied together with hand-finished calf leather to perfectly match. Pair this with the high-quality sapphire, anti-reflective coating, and multiple dials. This watch tends to impress those who like intricate work, as the many small details draw attention towards the watch’s face.

Lastly, the numbering is in Arabic numerals, and features bronze brushed framing as well as bronzed hands. Overall, we enjoy that this watch’s design is much different from others you’d see on the market. Although, we do think the price point is pretty steep for what you’re getting. However, U Boat does use pure materials, and each watch is handcrafted by a professional, so you know you’re receiving a uniquely crafted wristwatch.

Capsoil Chrono DLC

u boat watch review

The next one on our list comes from their Capsoil line which is the Capsoil Chrono DLC a simple watch with an amplified display. Using a newly crafted method, the Chrono is bathed in an oil bath which surrounds the dial and creates a three-dimensional bubble. This fluid enables the dial to move within the casing and amplifies the hours, minutes, seconds, and a chronograph.

We find that this design tends to draw people in because the crafted details and design aren’t like any other watch on the market. Its simplistic design and colors fit most styles which can match with business attire or casual clothing.

Durable Casing

Other unique features include a handcrafted calf leather strap and water-resistant lining with a tongue buckle. The crystal is high quality and made with curved sapphire, and the back features screws that lace into a fume mineral glass lining. This protects the watch and makes it water-resistant of up to 100 mt or 10 ATM.

Unique Oil Treated Glass

The dial’s details are where it’s a bit unique. There are two superimposed layers which are black and feature beige color treated with superluminova. This accentuates the coloring and enables it to stand out amongst the super black backing. The casing comes with a diameter of 45 mm, but the oil treatment that’s used makes the glass look like it’s essentially not there.

What do we think?

For our U Boat watch review, if you’re looking for a stunning lightweight and manageable wristwatch that stands out from the others, then you can’t go wrong with the Capsoil Chrono  DLC.

What Makes U-Boat A Worthy Brand?

While we’d like to believe that U Boat provides the best wristwatches out there, we simply cannot justify some of the prices. Obviously, the design and authenticity of handcrafted materials is the deciding factor, as they all feature sturdy designs that come with protective coatings and water-resistant properties.

However, the worthiness depends on what you value as a consumer. If you’re looking for a stylish high-end watch to compliment your business attire, you may be drawn towards U Boat’s Precious collections or their Chimera line.

So, what’s our verdict? Well, we recommend investing in one of the watches such as the Capsoil or the Classico.

These are both high-end watches that have classic designs that are made with durable materials that have been handcrafted. If we’ve piqued your curiosity, head to the U Boat official website for more information about the brand.

Best Rolex For Everyday Wear: Top Watch Review

There are so many watches on the market nowadays. Dive watches, sports watches, and even watches made for the military. Not all of these are attractive timepieces. My job today is to pick the Best Rolex for everyday wear. As an avid Rolex watch owner and Rolex fanatic, I am more than fit for this review. The basis of a great “everyday” watch accounts for a few key aspects.

For one, a watch must be comfortable. It must also be durable, so it can handle everyday wear and tear. Lastly, if you are buying a Rolex, you want a stylish and reliable watch.

So, rather than keeping you at the edge of your seat throughout this whole review, I am going to outright tell you the best watch. (Sorry for the spoiler).

The ultimate winner for best everyday Rolex watch is the Rolex Oyster Perpetual 114300!

Read on to find out why the Oyster Perpetual is the best for everyday wear!

Rolex Oyster Perpetual 114300

The Oyster Perpetual Reference number 114300, is a sleek and simple watch by Rolex.

best rolex for everyday wear

What makes the Rolex Oyster Perpetual so great, is ironically the simplicity of the timepiece. It is in every way, an everyday watch. It is a good size, very comfortable, durable, reasonably priced, and matches with LITERALLY ANYTHING!

The case is a perfect size, 39 mm, to fit a wrist of any size. You also get a fully adjustable, oyster steel bracelet, that is very comfortable to wear and stays snug on the wrist. These oyster bracelets do not loosen up like Jubilee bracelets tend to do.

Certified “Everyday” Watch

You can rest assure that the Oyster Perpetual will look good with ANY outfit you choose; casual or formal. This is because of the beautiful dark rhodium dial paired with the stainless steel, silver case, and bracelet. The movement is excellent; a 31 jewel, house-made Swiss automatic movement with a 48-hour power reserve. So not only will your watch have a clean look, but it will be very reliable as well.

Top Features

  • Classic design, dark rhodium dial
  • Great value; low price for a Rolex watch
  • Comfortability

Rolex Air-King 116900

The Air King is a true king in the watch game.  This is a watch for those who like a bit of history, good style, and durability.

best rolex for everyday wear

Back in 1945, Rolex gifted the world with the fabulous Air series of watches. The Air King quickly became one of the top models and would later become a collector’s item for watch connoisseurs.  While the newer models do not have the same collectors value as the originals; the 116900 is still considered a top-notch watch.

Other than wearing a collectible item on your wrist (which seems to contradict what an “everyday watch” really is) let me give you some reasons why the Air-King is in fact, a great watch for everyday wear.

A 40mm case, 19mm band with and a fold-over clasp keep the watch looking good and makes for a great fit for most wrists. The bold black dial features the classic Air-King name (so you can show off)  and is surrounded by a polished stainless steel bezel. Like the Oyster Perpetual, the Air-King features full stainless steel, Rolex Oyster bracelet.  Why the design does not steer away from the classic look of the 1950s, a bit of color was added to the crown in the dial and the second hand. Giving the watch a bit of contrast, to really add more to your look.

A Piece Of History On Your Wrist

It is easy to tell why the Air-King is a great everyday watch. The watch can be worn with anything. It has a casual feel but can definitely be worn with a suit as well. The timepiece is comfortable, durable, and reliable. Think of the Oyster Perpetual, just add a bit more history and you pretty much have the same watch! This is why the history factor of this watch makes it a notable mention for today’s review!

Top Features

  • History of the Air-King (A collector’s item)
  • The contrast of colors in the dial
  • Reliability (This watch was and is still used by pilots for long flights)

Rolex Submariner

Would this really be a true Rolex review if the classic Submariner was not included?

best rolex for everyday wear

When many people think of Rolex. They immediately envision the classic dive watch, the Submariner (No, I’m not a mind reader, but ask anybody, this holds true). And for a very good reason. The Submariner is a beautiful watch by Rolex that is a great functional dive watch that is also worn for everyday wear. The flexibility of this watch is insane! Not many watches do you seen be worn in the ocean, to the mall, or even at an important business meeting.

The Submariner is fit with a 40 mm, stainless steel case. The case looks larger and shiny, because of the black ceramic, bi-directional bezel. You also get the signature Rolex Cyclops to magnify the date. This is one of my personal favorite features of a Rolex because the 2.5 magnification really stands out and exemplifies what it is to be a Rolex.

A Durable Dive Watch

The final say on the Submariner is it is probably the most durable everyday watch that you can buy. Otherwise, you have a dark and bold black dial and shiny polished silver bracelet and case, that can fit any style that you choose. Since the Submariner is larger than some of the other watches today, it stands out and looks GREAT on the wrist of any big executive or businessman waiting to close a deal.

Top Features

  • Signature Rolex Cyclops (2.5 date magnification)
  • Extreme Durability (300m water resistance, shockproof, scratch-resistant sapphire crystal)
  • Beautiful black dial

Rolex GMT-Master II

The GMT-Master II is yet another great watch for everyday wear.

best rolex for everyday wear

With the Rolex GMT-Master II, you get a combination of great technology, durability, and unique design. This is a GREAT watch; quite frankly one of my favorites. But when accounting for the price relative to the other watches being reviewed today, it is a bit higher. Now if you are Elon Musk or Jeff Bezos, I would say this is the everyday watch for you. But not all of us can be as interesting (and rich) as Mr. Musk.

At first glance, the Master II is almost overwhelming. The large 40mm black dial is perfectly fitted with the black and blue ceramic bezel, the anti-reflective sapphire crystal, and a beautifully polished stainless steel bracelet.

A Watch With Some Special Features

The GMT-Master is not only attractive, it has some great features hidden inside. With the GMT, you can display multiple timezones on your watch while traveling abroad. A 3186 MOVEMENT keeps this watch running strong. This is one of the most robust and reliable mechanical movements that Rolex has created. The Bidirectional rotatable 24-hour graduated bezel is as beautiful as it is important. This is how you will switch between timezones easily and effectively.

Top Features

  • Black and Blue, 24 Hour Uni-directional, ceramic bezel
  • Rolex Calibre 3186 Self-Winding Movement
  • Multiple Timezones for Travel

Rolex Cosmograph Daytona

Definitely a notable mention for our review today. The beautiful, classy, and the high valued Daytona had to have a place in today’s review. Although it is one of the most sought-after Rolex watches, due to price and mere pricelessness, the Daytona comes in LAST place today.

best rolex for everyday wear

Some Rolex fanatics may call me insane for ranking the Daytona in the last place. But please remember, this is an everyday wear review. The Daytona is not only priced on the higher side but also because of the value behind the watch, it may be hard to pull it out of the box every single day.

The aesthetics on the Daytona are mind-bogglingly amazing. The shiny stainless steel matches perfectly with the clean, white dial. The three subdials give the watch a complex look and make it the perfect watch for any formal occasion. A wedding may be one of the best times to pull out your Daytona. But because of the Cosmograph functionality and durability of the watch, it also makes a good piece to match with casual outfits (just take care of your watch)!

The “High-Class” Everyday Watch

There is no doubt that the Daytona is a good watch for everyday wear. It is reliable, durable, and has unique functions that make the watch one of a kind in the Rolex class. But the price can make some stray away from pulling it out every day. Let me say this now, if the price was not an issue, this watch may be listed as NUMBER ONE! Unfortunately, like many, I have bills to pay, so the Daytona will probably only be worn on special occasions for me. Don’t be surprised if you start to notice this watch, or any variation of the Rolex Daytona Platinum Watch Ice Blue Ceramic 116506 Daytona, being worn by wealthy, top-tier executives.

Top Features

  • 3 subdials with Chronograph features (stopwatch, timer)
  • Beautiful white dial with silver hour markers
  • Bulky Silver Ceramic Bezel

The Final Say

Like I mentioned at the beginning of the article. I am a Rolex FANATIC. I own many variations of Rolex and even have some vintage pieces passed down from my family. So this review was easy, but difficult at the same time. There are so many watches by Rolex that I love and there are plenty that was not mentioned today.

My results for the review today were based on price, comfortability, durability, value, and neutral design that can match with any outfit. Because of this, I chose the Rolex Oyster Perpetual as the ultimate winner! It is very comfortable, easy to wear, and read, and a durable timepiece that can withstand everyday wear.

The Choice is Yours

At the end of the day, the choice is ALL YOURS! Every watch today is an EXCELLENT timepiece. There is no watch that I reviewed that I would not recommend to my best friend. So please, choose your liking and I hope I made your watch shopping experience easier. Happy shopping my friends!

Zeppelin Watch Review: Which Watches to Purchase?

zeppelin watches review

Today we are venturing back in time with a Zeppelin watches review. Before trips to the airport common, and the only things in the sky were birds. In 1900, the first Zeppelin was designed and ready for flight. The Zeppelin watches by POINTtec, represent this classic era, bringing a classic and simplistic design to the watch game.

zeppelin watches review

Although POINTtec is a relatively new watchmaker (1987), they focus on making watches that represent the era of the great Zeppelins. The timepieces by POINTtec are valued at a good price, use great materials for design, and create high-quality pieces. I definitely recommend owning at least one if you are into classic dress watches.

Zeppelin Hindenburg Z-129 Automatic

zeppelin watches review

The Hindenburg can be considered the face of the Zeppelin brand. This is a beautiful, simplistic timepiece, that truly feels like you are being transported back to 1900 when you are wearing it.

Ironically, this watch is named after the passenger-carrying Zeppelin, the Hindenburg. In 1937 the Hindenburg crashed and is forever remembered in history as the Hindenburg disaster. The reason behind the name of the watch is not because of the tragedy (at least I hope not), but after the beautiful design, retro style, and elegance that the Zeppelin Hindenburg represented.

Design

When you first glance at this watch, you are greeted with a large 40mm stainless steel case and a bright white dial. The large, retro-styled fonts jump out and give the watch its unique and classic look.

One thing I love about all Zeppelin watches, and the Hindenburg in particular, is how the case is designed. The frame of the case is double-domed, giving the watch a thicker look, that is more bold and desirable. Rather than a flat case that is found on many watches. POINTtec uses a hesalite crystal to cover the dial. Hesalite is a great material for a crystal because scratches can be wiped away and are very hard to come by. They are also cheaper to be replaced than sapphire crystals and are of higher quality than acrylic crystals.

The dark black, high-grade calfskin band is another great addition to this timepiece. It helps to maintain a classic dressy look when on the wrist and offers great comfort to those who wear it. This is a truly great material that is not always found on watches. Usually, you get a “genuine leather” which is typically a cocktail of low-quality materials that do NOT last. The Zeppelins’ calfskin leather band looks great, feels great, and compliments the watch well.

Durability

Zeppelin watches are great, durable watches that are sure to last. It is hard to describe the strong feel of the case without you actually feeling it in person. But the case surely is of great material and is meant to last. The watch can also take some minor exposure to water. Just DO NOT go swimming or take a shower in ANY Zeppelin watches. Now, I have no idea why you would want to, but in case you have a”wearing a watch in the pool fetish” I just want to let you know this is not the watch for you.

As I mentioned before, the hesalite crystal is an awesome durable crystal. Scratches are almost impossible to come by. If you do in fact get a scratch, it is easier to polish out than sapphire crystals, so your watch can stay looking brand new for years and years.

Lastly, do not forget the calfskin leather. You can feel the difference in the leather used on this watch and it shows through wear that it maintains a sleek and matte look. This material does not wear as easily as genuine leathers and should last a long time if worn with care.

Movement

I am actually impressed with the Hindenburg movement. And that is saying A LOT! You can say I am a movement geek, nerd, enthusiast, or any other adjective to describe someone who is oddly obsessed with something. I wouldn’t be surprised if I showed up on an episode of “My Strange Addictions”; Man In Love With Watch Movements…..

Back on topic. The movement on the Hindenburg is not in any way OUTSTANDING. However, it is pretty precise, especially for the price you pay.

The Hindenburg Zeppelin uses a Japanese, Caliber 9132, mechanic, self-winding, movement. Sounds pretty fancy, huh?

When reading reviews and customer feedback on all different websites, it seems that there is a general consensus that the movement works great! An interesting feature of the movement is that has somewhat of a loud rotor, which in my opinion, seems to fit the classic style. Do not expect this watch to be as accurate as a top-tier Rolex movement. If you enjoy the movement for what it is, I am sure you will be happy!

Zeppelin Hindenburg Z-129 MOONPHASE

Another great watch from Zeppelin is the Hindenburg Moonphase.

zeppelin watches review

This watch has a very similar classic and retro design as the original Zeppelin Hindenburg, with a few noticeable differences.

Design

The first difference that stands out on the dial is the crescent moon, “moon phase” logo on the bottom of the dial. This unique feature looks very interesting and actually gives you the ability to track the moon phases after just setting it up ONCE!

Another great feature is the date function. Not only do you have numerical numbers for days in a month, but you also have the day of the week, Sunday- Saturday.

Other than those main differences, everything else is pretty much the same. A great double-domed, 40mm case. A large white dial with black hands and old-school numbers, a hesalite crystal, and of course the black calfskin leather band.

Durability

For the purpose of not repeating myself, the durability of this watch is identical to the original Hindenburg Other than a few differences in design, the overall make and structure are the same. Meaning, yes, it is very durable.

Movement

The inside of this watch differs from the original Hindenburg, sadly. Instead of an automatic, mechanical self-winding movement, this model uses a quartz movement. I do not care for quartz movements, to be honest, I prefer a watch to be automatic.

The Hindenburg Moonphase watch uses a Ronda 706B, quartz movement. This is known to be a better movement when it comes to quartz, but in my opinion (if you care) a quartz is a quartz.

One thing that many people do like about this movement is the alignment of the hands. The second-hand ticks around the dial VERY accurately. Meaning, the hand is dead on with the second and minute markers. When you look at the time you can feel confident at what number the hand is on. Many watches have hands that tick in the middle of each marker, which is not a big deal, but if you are paying for a watch I would think you would want everything to be PERFECT!

Zeppelin Flatline Power Reserve

This watch is sure to make your heart skip a beat…. It may even leave you flatlined.

Design

A 40mm stainless steel case, polished bezel, and a bold dark black anthracite dial are the features that bring this watch together. Overall, the design is quite simple but has a clean bold look to it that defines the meaning of a dress watch.

Small white numbers and tick marks roll around this beauty and add to the large look of the watch. This watch also features the black calfskin leather band, which pairs perfectly with this piece.

Durability

This watch is just as durable as the other two watches I reviewed. A mineral crystal that is easily replaceable and easy to polish off scratches. The leather calfskin strap is one of the highlights of the watch’s durability. The high-grade material lasts through many wears and does not fade and tear like cheaper genuine straps (I know, I already said that).

Movement

I’ll take an automatic over a quartz movement any day. Which is why I like the movement on the Flatline Power Reserve.  The movement on this watch is a 26 jewel Citizen automatic movement. Based on customer reviews it is a reliable movement that does not encounter any problems. The power reserve is just another interesting feature that lets you know when your watch needs a winding.

Power reserves are great additions to mechanical watches (especially movements that are not TOP QUALITY), so you know when your watch needs to be wound up. A big problem people encounter with mechanical movements is forgetting to wind up their watches, so the time is never accurate. With this movement and design, you know that the watch needs a winding so you can never have to worry about losing time (unless you are too lazy to wind your watch).

Why Buy Zeppelin Watches

Zeppelin does, in fact, make great watches at a VERY affordable price for those who love nice, minimalistic dress watches. All of the Zeppelin watches by POINTtec use great materials and unique designs on their builds. My favorite features are the quality calfskin bands, double-domed stainless steel cases, and the moon phase tracker on the Hindenburg MoonPhase watch.

When comparing Zeppelins’ to other dress watches, in my opinion, zeppelins’ prevail in most cases. The Zeppelin watch represents an age of classic design, innovation, and a whole different culture. Wearing these watches bring a style to your outfit that is different than many sports watches and modernized pieces that are mainstream nowadays.
